| Abstract: |
This study determined the level of social media exposure and academic performance of Grade 7 learners in Don Carlos National High School, Don Carlos, Bukidnon. Specifically, it examined social media exposure in terms of platform used, level of engagement, and supervision and parental guidance; described the learners’ academic performance; and tested the significant relationship between social media exposure and academic performance. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design involving 144 Grade 7 learners. Weighted mean and frequency were used to describe the variables, while Pearson’s correlation coefficient at 0.05 level of significance.
Findings revealed moderate exposure in social media. Among the sub-variables, supervision and parental guidance obtained the highest mean followed by platform and level of engagement. Academic performance found very satisfactory, indicating that most learners performed well academically. In terms of correlation, the results showed no significant relationship on the level of social media exposure with academic performance. Thus, the study concluded that although Grade 7 learners had moderate social media exposure and very satisfactory academic performance, social media exposure did not significantly influence their academic performance. |
