Abstract: The use of synthetic chemicals has been widespread in controlling vector mosquitoes causing health related issues and mosquito become more resist to these substances. In this study, the researchers developed a plant-based mosquito killer diffuser using Sambong (Blumea balsamifera) extract to provide a safer, eco-friendly alternative to chemical repellents, which pose health and environmental risks. The study aimed to determine the time rate of sambong effectiveness, develop a plant-based mosquito killer, and asses the efficacy in terms of number of dead adult mosquitoes. A quantitative experimental design was used to measure Sambong extract's ability to repel insects and kill them. Researchers tested the efficacy of Sambong extract when diffused using an electric diffuser in repelling mosquitoes. Seventy mosquitoes were observed in a controlled environment, with varying concentrations of Sambong extract (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) tested for repellent and insecticidal effects over 30 minutes. The result revealed that 100% concentration showed the greatest efficacy that killed 16 mosquitoes and repelled 18 mosquitoes within 30 minutes. Whole concentrations displayed weaker effects, but still demonstrated repellent properties. The study found out that Sambong’s natural compounds, including flavonoids and terpenoids, contributed to its repellent and insecticidal properties, causing dizziness and death among mosquitoes. The findings suggest that Sambong extract as a promising, sustainable solution for mosquito control, offering an eco-friendly alternative to chemical-based repellents. Further research is also recommended to optimize its use and ensure effectiveness in broader real-world applications, paving the way for natural plant-based mosquito control strategies.
