Abstract: |
Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition often caused by bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, leading to inflammation, scarring, and discomfort. Many conventional treatments can cause side effects, increasing interest in plant-based alternatives. This study aimed to assess the antibacterial activity of Peperomia pellucida soap at varying concentrations (85%, 70%, and 50%) against Staphylococcus aureus. A quantitative experimental design was used, employing the agar well diffusion method to measure bacterial inhibition zones. The results indicated that higher concentrations of Peperomia pellucida extract led to greater antibacterial effects, with the 85% formulation showing the largest inhibition zone (17.87 mm), followed by 70% (17.23 mm) and 50% (14.13 mm). Statistical tests confirmed significant differences between concentrations, supporting the effectiveness of Peperomia pellucida as a natural antibacterial agent. It is recommended that consumers consider this plant-based soap as a gentler alternative for acne management. Future research should investigate its long-term effects, potential skin benefits, and formulation improvements to enhance its efficacy and stability in skincare products. |
