Abstract: |
Engaging students actively in the learning process is essential for enhancing their comprehension and skills development. This classroom-based action research investigates the impact of challenge-based games on the engagement of Grade 10 students in Filipino lessons at Batangan Integrated School. Thirty students participated in the study, which employed an experimental quantitative design. Data were collected through validated survey questionnaires, pre-tests, and post-tests, with appropriate ethical approvals and participant consent secured. Statistical analyses, including ANCOVA and t-tests, were conducted to compare engagement levels before and after the intervention.
The study utilized both digital and non-digital challenge games designed to foster cooperative learning, critical thinking, and cultural appreciation. Findings indicate that integrating these interactive games into the Filipino curriculum significantly enhances students’ active participation, motivation, and language proficiency. Moreover, the games encouraged problem-solving and creativity, contributing to a richer understanding of Filipino culture.
Consistent with recent literature, the results suggest that game-based learning can increase enthusiasm and retention of practical knowledge in language education. This research highlights the potential of challenge-based games as effective pedagogical tools, offering educators innovative strategies to create dynamic and interactive learning environments. Ultimately, the study advocates for the incorporation of game-based activities to improve student engagement and performance in Filipino language instruction.
