Leadership path: teacher challenges, School principal positions |
Abstract: |
This study investigates the challenges faced by teachers applying for school principal positions in Kadingilan District, Bukidnon, during the academic year 2025-2026. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research explores the motivations, obstacles, support systems, and necessary preparations for aspiring school leaders. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and surveys involving principal applicants from various public schools. Findings reveal that applicants are primarily driven by a "Desire for Impact and Professional Growth," seeking to make meaningful contributions to their school communities. However, they encounter significant challenges, including administrative burdens, intense competition, and self-doubt as they transition from teaching to leadership roles.
The study emphasizes the importance of support systems in navigating these challenges, highlighting the roles of formal guidance, mentorship, and emotional support from colleagues and family. Additionally, effective preparation, including professional development in leadership skills and formal education, is essential for success. The research concludes that aspiring principals must cultivate resilience and motivation while relying on robust support networks to thrive in their leadership journeys. Recommendations for educators, policymakers, and current school leaders are provided to enhance the pathways for aspiring principals and ensure effective leadership in public schools. Further research is encouraged to deepen understanding of the factors influencing school leadership transitions.
